Call it a late holiday gift, or something to see you into the New Year. I haven't given gifts in this way in a century or so, and I'm afraid I don't know where you live, so this will have to do.

Inside are a number of gifts; the largest, a green leather bag polished to perfection and the perfect size for carrying around a book or two; then, quite aptly, a book also of leather but dyed a vibrant blue colour, with intricate detailing on the front cover and blank pages waiting for ideas to be scribbled down on them; followed by a pocket-sized ink pen and a small vial of thick colour to refill it with. Finally, in a small jewellery box tucked inside the bag, a pair of gold earrings crafted to look like pomegranates, with glittering red stones at their cores. ]
