Before that, I saw what I always see in the blood. The unspooling of a life, ready for me to take the story in exchange for the life itself. I saw the power you have, I saw what it cost you.
It was a little like when you showed me the vision of us dancing, when you were trying to get me to take that dress. Only...that time, I saw things. This time I think it was more like I felt them?
I saw colors, I think. Like a watercolor left out in the rain. But it didn't scare me, being so senseless, because I felt warm. And safe.
I know I should probably be questioning your self preservation, but I can’t help but be glad to hear that; that you knew me even in that state, and that you felt safe in my hands. The peace it can bring is what I wanted for you.
I’m coming to find that the experience can vary for mortals. Not all reactions to the bite are the same. I should have figured as much, but I haven’t had the opportunity to ask before coming here.

I would let you do it again. Maybe someplace a little quieter than a gala, the next time, but...I want to try to remember more of it. To focus on how it feels. Does that sound strange?
Quieter... But of course. I don't think it's strange. You are the kind of person who likes to know your own thoughts on things, and it's understandably difficult to know how the numbing of consciousness feels when you aren't prepared for it.
As insatiable and as eager to please you as I am, how could I refuse such a sweet request to try again?
And you want to feel that again? Sometimes when we have done something our whole lives, and have got used to it, it can be quite unnerving to be without it. Like the rug being pulled out from under your feet.
I suppose it just depends on whether you're looking for a change of scenery — a new rug, or perhaps polishing the wooden floors to see how they shine without.
